Uwem is also experienced in establishing robust compliance frameworks for clients, a testament to his proactive approach in ensuring businesses align seamlessly with legal and regulatory requirements.

Uwem has been deeply involved in technology advisory and compliance, having advised a significant number of international and local entities. He also possesses significant experience in taxation and tax disputes as well as advising and representing clients in disputes against tax authorities.

A Selection of Relevant Experience

• Regularly advising Standard Chartered Group on compliance with Nigeria’s data protection laws in its operations and engagement with customers, employees and candidates;
• Advised META on its deployment of music streaming feature on the WhatsApp platform in line with Nigerian laws;
• Advised Bloomberg LP on compliance requirements under Nigeria’s data protection regime in the provision of its products and services in Nigeria.
• Advised and represented Multichoice Nigeria and Multichoice Africa in tax disputes against tax assessments of N1.8 Trillion Naira and $300 Million USD respectively at the Tax Appeal Tribunal as well as at the Federal High Court;
• Advised Accor Afrique and represented the office of the Administrator in Nigeria’s first ever court ordered administration;
• Advised Google on various data protection, privacy, advertising, lottery/gambling and other regulatory compliance matters in connection with its continued operation of a vast number of Google products and services in Nigeria;
