26 May 2021, the Hague District Court delivered a first of its kind judgement supporting the transition to clean energy by ordering Shell to reduce its global CO2 emissions.
In a class-action instituted by climate change activists, the Court ordered Royal Dutch Shell to reduce its global group carbon emission figures from its business operations by at least 45% net (compared to its 2019 emission levels), by 2030.
