On January 6, 2025, Ghana’s parliament enacted the Environmental Protection Act, 2025 (Act 1124), to replace the Environmental Protection Act, 1994 (Act 490) while promoting environmental sustainability and private sector participation.

The Act 1124 establishes the Environmental Protection Authority with expanded regulatory powers and the Ghana Carbon Registry to promote carbon credit trading and climate action. It also enforces strict pesticide control, hazardous waste regulations, and e-waste import restrictions to protect the environment.
