1st April 2022: Latham & Watkins Partners, John Balsdon and Linzi Thomas visited the TEMPLARS Lagos office to facilitate a Masterclass on Energy Transition as a capacity building initiative for TEMPLARS Associates, specifically those in the Energy & Projects and Finance Practice Groups.
The Masterclass highlighted low carbon economy growth potential for Africa, global developments in Energy Transition and the impact of Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) criteria on raising of finance and its impact on project development.
John Balsdon and Linzi Thomas also covered ESG policies, Industry Adoption of Voluntary Guidance, social and technological developments, the growing impacts of ESG on global trade developments and the need to emphasize supply chain resilience.
The training also pinpointed that ESG issues are financially material, hence they are consistent with the fiduciary duties of a company’s Board of Directors which serves as an incentive for Boards in global markets to develop their ESG Transition strategy to act in the best interest of shareholders.
