TEMPLARS client, UTM Offshore has executed the front-end engineering design of Nigeria’s first Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facility with Japan Gas Corporation (JGC) and Technip Energies of France. The signing ceremony took place in London on 16th November 2022.
UTM Offshore’s advisers are TEMPLARS who are Project Counsel while Kellogg Brown and Root (KBR) are Owners Engineers.
The FLNG facility, a new build vessel with a 1.2 million tons per annum production capacity, targets the processing of associated gas currently flared to cut carbon emissions and monetise additional reserves for the domestic and global markets. This target aligns with the Nigerian government’s gas flare commercialisation programme.
According to Yemisi Awonuga, TEMPLARS Partner and Co-Head, Energy and Projects, “advising on this transaction, which is a pioneer FLNG project undertaken in Nigeria, further attests to the depth of our capabilities in landmark projects in the energy sector. As the Project Counsel to UTM Offshore Limited on this transaction, we are delighted at the opportunity to once again partner with the private sector to realise the national ambition to commercialise our vast natural gas reserves in the context of the global transition towards cleaner energy sources.”
The TEMPLARS team on this transaction was led by Yemisi Awonuga and Dayo Okusami, Partners and Co-Heads, Energy and Projects and supported by Associates, Ifure Udofa, Uba Emole and Zeenah Alolade.
