We are excited about the appointment of our lawyers to key positions in various committees of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Section on Business Law. The lawyers include Desmond Ogba, Oghomwen Akpaibor, Oyeyemi Immanuel and Biegbana Jaja.
Desmond was appointed as the 1st Vice-Chairman of the Banking, Finance and Insolvency committee. He is a Managing Counsel in our Finance and Projects practice groups. He has extensive experience advising project sponsors, borrowers, corporates, banks, funds and other financial institutions on diverse transactions including project finance, power projects and other infrastructure development, strategic investments, international capital market issuances, structured finance and corporate finance. Desmond is ranked in a number of international legal directories including IFLR 1000 Guide to the World’s leading Financial Law Firms and Chambers Global Guide to the Legal Profession with clients describing him as “…a good problem solver and very client-oriented” and “…someone who is very well versed in banking and finance regulations”. Desmond was also recently appointed to the Technical Committee of the Nigerian Senate on Financial Law Reform and has contributed to numerous global publications.
Oghomwen was appointed as the Secretary of the Employment and Industrial Relations committee. She is a Senior Associate in our Corporate & Commercial practice group and a key member of our Labour and Employment sub-group. Oghomwen has a wealth of experience in general corporate advisory, labour and employment, immigration as well as general regulatory compliance including liaison and representation of clients with regulatory authorities.
Oyeyemi was appointed as the 2nd Vice-Chairman of the Young Lawyers Committee. She is a Senior Associate in our Corporate & Commercial practice group. She provides general corporate advisory on the Nigerian law and policy affecting the incorporation and operation of businesses, corporate governance and tax compliance issues, and is part of the firm’s Labour and Immigration practice.
Biegbana was appointed the Secretary of the Tax committee. She is a key Associate in the Tax and Energy & Projects practice Groups. Biegbana renders tax advisory in local and cross border transactions across the various tax regimes, assessing the risk of tax exposure and tax compliance status within the provisions of Nigerian tax laws. She also assists local and international corporations across different sectors in achieving tax efficient structuring in a number of different contexts including mergers and acquisitions, foreign investment, private equity finance, oil and gas divestments and project finance.
The Section on Business Law of the Nigerian Bar Association under the stewardship of its Chairman Mr. Olu Akpata, also Partner Corporate & Commercial practice group at Templars, has continued to raise the standard of Commercial law practice in Nigeria essentially through consistent capacity building for its members by exposing them to the latest developments in commercial law practice, thereby increasing their competence and competitiveness.
