Templars Managing Counsel, Desmond Ogba has been appointed by the Nigerian Senate to serve as a member of a technical committee of experts to support the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions on ongoing financial law reform.
The 12-member committee, comprising of experts from such disciplines as law, economics, banking and finance, will advise the Senate on a number of proposed legislation intended to reform some existing laws in the financial sector as well as introduce the much needed innovation and new institutions in that space. The proposed laws deal with subject matters such as Regulation of Payment, Clearing and Settlement Systems; the Legal Framework for Credit Bureau Services; and the repeal and replacement of the Foreign Exchange (Monitoring and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act.
At the inauguration ceremony for the technical committee at the National Assembly, Abuja on Monday, 7 March, 2017, the members were charged with conducting a speedy and thorough review of the draft bills and other stakeholders’ submissions made to the Senate in respect of the new laws which are already being considered at the committee stage in the Senate.
