Yemi holds an LL. B degree (with honours) from the University of Lagos and a B.L. degree from the Nigerian Law School. He also holds a certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals as a Certified Information and Privacy Professional/ Europe (CIPPE).

He regularly advises and represents a wide range of clients in complex and high-level disputes spanning diverse areas such as torts, debt recovery, taxation, oil and gas, privacy/ data protection, labour relations and general commercial law issues. Prior to joining Templars, he was an integral member of the dispute resolution team of a top law firm in Nigeria, in which capacity he led transactions and provided legal services to clients across various industries – including multinationals, indigenous companies, the Government of the Federation, State governments, amongst others.

 A Selection of Relevant Experience
  • Advised and successfully represented a leading custodial and investor services company in respect of a tax dispute before the Federal High Court, with a claim of over 21 billion Naira.
  • Advised and successfully represented a state-owned oil corporation in arbitral proceedings and in ensuing judgment enforcement proceedingswith an award of over 1.7 billion United States Dollars.
  • Represented an International Oil Company (IOC) in a landmark case which culminated in a landmark judicial precedent on the unconstitutionality of fines and penalties imposed by administrative bodies or government agencies.
  • Advised and represented over 20 commercial banks in a strategic and complex dispute involving tax authorities of over 30 states, on certain provisions of the Personal Income Tax Act (as amended) relating to foreign exchange transactions.
  • Worked on a team that successfully represented a major telecommunications company in respect of a sensitive dispute bordering on alleged breaches of extant tax and excise laws, and with a claim of about 2 billion United States Dollars.
  • Worked on a team that provided legal advisory and representative services to a leading telecommunications company in respect of a dynamic dispute bordering on alleged Capital Market infractions, with a claim of circa 8.1 billion United States Dollars.
  • Represented an IOC in some matters bordering on series of alleged oil spills involving about 5,000 claims spanning the Federal High Court and Court of Appeal sitting in Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River States.
  • Advised and represented one of Africa’s largest commercial banks in a major financial institution in a multifaceted loan recovery dispute before the Federal High Court, the United States Bankruptcy Court (for the southern district of Texas, Houston Division) and the Supreme Court of Nigeria, with a claim of 100 million United State Dollars.
  • Represented a major commercial Bank in respect of tax dispute bordering on allegedly unremitted Stamp Duties in the tune of over NGN102.9 billion.
