Sydney is an Associate in the firm’s Dispute Resolution and Investigations, White Collar and Compliance Practice Groups. He holds a Master of Laws (LLM) with distinction in Energy and Environmental Law from Tulane University Law School, USA, where he focused on sustainable energy and large-scale energy projects. He obtained a postgraduate Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) from the University of Ghana after completing a Bachelor of Arts degree program (BA) in Political Science and Sociology from the same university.
He has worked in the insurance sector as an underwriter and is currently pursuing a chartered qualification in Insurance from CII-UK. He has been admitted to practice as a Solicitor and Barrister of the Supreme Court of Ghana.
Prior to joining TEMPLARS, Sydney gained extensive experience working with a top-tier firm in Ghana as a litigator, appearing before various courts and representing a wide range of clients in matters such as land and labor disputes, corporate litigation, debt recovery, and negotiated settlements. As a corporate lawyer, he has advised several clients including multinational corporations on a wide range of transactions including corporate restructuring, regulatory compliance and corporate governance.
Relevant Experience
- Representing the Green Exchange (a securities exchange that offers pro-climate businesses the opportunity to raise capital through debt or equity through green bonds and crowdfunding) in respect of its challenge of a finding by the SEC on the pre-establishment promotional activities of the Green Exchange in the Ghanaian market.
- Represented Sonitra Ghana Limited in a complex real estate dispute involving the declaration of title to a major commercial investment located in a prime section of the city of Accra.
- Representing Teltiba Limited against a multinational gold mining company in connection with a mining trespass dispute and the enforcement of Teltiba’s claim to a gold mining site in the Upper East Region of Ghana.
- Represented several banks and financial institutions in debt recovery matters including UniBank, GT Bank, Omni BSIC and UBA Limited.
- Represented Rolider Ghana Limited, a major engineering and construction firm in a real estate property acquisition transaction.
- Advised a multi-national client partnering with the Government of Ghana to operationalize a DSD-SI (Global Fund) sponsored health project.
- Represented Mastercard Foundation in proceedings before the labor court and the National Labor Commission.
- Advised Onix Data Center, the leading provider of carrier and vendor neutral Tier IV colocation data center services in Ghana on key operational matters including arrangements for future development and expansion.
